Overview
Mercury outboard Guardian system alarm indicating oil pressure has dropped below the safe operating threshold. The engine may enter Guardian Mode, automatically reducing RPM to protect internal components. Immediate attention required to prevent catastrophic engine failure.
Symptoms
Audible alarm horn sounding
Engine RPM automatically reduced (Guardian Mode)
Oil pressure warning light on gauge cluster
Possible engine overheat following oil starvation
SmartCraft display showing oil pressure fault
Loss of power above idle speed
Common Causes
01Low oil level in reservoir
02Faulty oil pressure sending unit
03Clogged oil pickup screen or filter
04Worn oil pump or internal oil pump failure
05Oil leak at gasket, seal, or hose fitting
06Incorrect oil viscosity for operating temperature
